The Village of Forestburg administrative staff consists of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Assistant Administrator, and a part time secretary/receptionist. Administration handles a large variety of areas including utility services and billings, land use planning including development permits, building permit information, municipal taxation, legislative services for Council, land sales, community hall bookings, Professional Building management, Farvolden Center Building Management, and monthly newsletter publication, to name a few. 2011 ASSESSMENT & TAX NOTICES
The Village of Forestburg hereby gives notice in accordance with the conditions of Section 311(1) Municipal Government Act, Chapter M-26 2000 that combined assessment and tax notices were mailed May 31, 2011 for all assessed property of the assessment roll of the municipality.
ASSESSMENT COMPLAINTS
The following information from the Municipal Government Act describes the procedure for complaints:
1) A complaint must be in writing on the prescribed form, available from the Village office or on-line at www.forestburg.ca.
2) A complaint may be made only by an assessed person or a taxpayer.
3) A complaint may relate to any assessed property or business.
4) A complaint may be about any of the following matters, as shown on an assessment or tax notice:
a) the description of a property or business;
b) the name and mailing address of an assessed person or taxpayer;
c) an assessment;
d) an assessment class;
e) an assessment sub-class;
f) the type of property;
g) the type of improvement;
h) school support
i) whether the property is assessable;
j) whether the property or business is exempt from taxation under Part10.
5) There is no right to make a complaint about any tax rate.
6) A complaint must explain why the complainant thinks that information shown on an assessment or tax notice is incorrect.
7) The complaint must include the mailing address of the complainant.
8) The complaint must be accompanied by the appropriate fee:
a) $50.00 fee per farmland/residential parcel;
b) $650.00 fee per non-residential parcel,
9) The completed complaint form with the applicable fee must be delivered or mailed to the Chief Administrative Officer on or before July 30, 2011. Fee to be refunded on each successful appeal.
